The Motor Center

January 4. 2001

Jan, Kjell, Arthur and Jarl try out the new couches of the Motor Center one dark winter night.
Yup, definitely looks like Looserville Mental Rehab Inc., but it's just Jarl and Peer helping yours sincerely with fitting new studded winter tires to the original Chevy Truck 16" summer rims.
Not only car fixing takes place in the Motor Center workshop. Actually, most of our bitter opinions on politicians, taxes, car prices etc. are born right here.
Even our American battleships fit in the workshop.
GM B-bodies are popular vehicles at West Side Cruisers. Seen here are Jan's 1990 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser (front) and Elin's 1987 Chevrolet Caprice Classic Estate Wagon.

Poor little thing!!! No other Furbie is as well-travelled as this one. On the other hand, the panoramic view is less practical in case of a pile-up on the highway...

A new hood, grill and Distinctive Truck Accessories bumper have been fitted to Tord's 1997 Chevrolet K1500 Silverado Z-71 Sportside after the accident on November 21. 2000.
In the world of computers, they're merely called "bugs". This is such a bug in progress of erasing pixels in a graphic file. This particular kind of bug will utilize its tongue to lick its way through the picture until all colored pixels are gone.

Car Painting

Stephen King's "Christine"? No, it's Kay's 1959 DeSoto Diplomat Custom 4dht being prepared for a fresh layer of paint.
"Now where do y'all think this one fits?"

After a short stay in the paint shed, Kay's 1959 DeSoto Diplomat Custom 4dht has changed from burgundy to white and crimson red.

As Kay was backing up his DeSoto, we heard a sudden crunch, and.......no-no-no, just kidding, it's just a couple of boots and a moderate ATF leakage :-)

ACSN Spring Meet at Valle Hovin stadium

Clas and Stein posing (?) in front of Stein's smooth 1932 Chevy hot-rod. It may very well be that Stein is about to explode. Anyhow, I've never seen that expression on someone's face before.

Not a fire drill, just WSC members enjoying the weather and the line-up of cars outside the Motor Center.
"Y'all look at that fine lineup, guys!"

Klintberg&Way visiting

June 7. 2001

Olav Berg representing car parts dealer Klintberg&Way pays a visit to WSC. For more information on Klintberg&Way, visit www.kliway.no.
Olav donated a very nice amount of automotive accessories in conjunction with WSC's 20th anniversary lottery/auction. Thank you Klintberg&Way!

WSC 20th anniversary party

A nice article on our 20th anniversary celebration in the local newspaper Asker & Bærums Budstikke on June 15.
Sleek cars lined up in front of the Motor Center main entrance.
With a near-four-digit amount of horsepower, Peer's 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air 2dht was one of the main attractions.
Elin and Peer showed up with two of WSC's favorite jewels: 1958 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe and 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air 2dht.
President Jan Aurholm in progress of being interviewed by ABTV/TVNorge while posing in his 1959 Ford Galaxie Sunliner.
Tord's 1997 Chevrolet K1500 Silverado Z-71 Sportside played its role as a fridge during the celebration very well! The cans stayed really c-c-c-cold!
Thanks to Yngve, Helge, Harry and many more, our hamburger BBQ was very popular with the visitors.
The main entrance of the Motor Center. A WSC rack was rigged above the entrance, and a couple of tables were filled with auto-accessories for the lottery.
Selling cakes, chocolate, hot-dogs etc., Li and Unni faithfully manned their posts.
Svein Thore's recently painted 1969 Corvette shone beautifully as it posed outside the Motor Center workshop.
Lots of activity in the Motor Center yard. Not a common sight at West Side Cruisers...
Beautiful scenery. American cars in a variety of shapes and sizes. In addition to this you also see the crushing of a European Ford Scorpio in front of Kolsåstoppen, one of Bærum county's characteristic mountains.
John crushing Jarl's Ford Scorpio. Geir plays stuntman as he depresses the brake pedal to keep the vehicle put.
Frederik's ex-car, a 1980 Chevrolet Caprice Classic with a recessed license plate frame in the T-gate, and a supercharger under the hood! Add nice paint to that, and you have a real goodie for the full-size fans.
Geir's 1990 Chevrolet G20 Starcraft. Where's the A-Team?
Arctic Trucks showed up with an awesome, widened 2001 Ford Excursion Limited. Cars nearly 100" wide are cool!

Independence Day Parade

July 1. 2001

Outside the American Embassy, everyone is lining up ahead of the annual parade. The parade slowly moves from the embassy, through nearby residental areas and into the Frogner park.
American cars from several local clubs participated in the parade.
Cheer leaders definitely belong in this parade!
The official 4th of July celebration takes place in the Frogner park. ACCN Chairman Jason Turflinger speaks. Visit ACCN at www.accn.no

Easy Diner meeting

July 12. 2001

A typical West Side Cruisers gathering outside Easy Diner at Haslum. As this neon road sign as well as the American diner inspired interior will be replaced by the end of 2001, yet an other charming curiosity will join the dull main stream of "modern" diner design.

Annual trip to Liodden Camping

September 1. 2001

The boys are back in town... Helge, Yngve and Robert makes Nesbyen an unsafe place to be on our 2001 trip to Liodden Camping.
With temperatures on our side, nothing is as cozy as BBQing at Liodden.
Yes, we're one weird crowd...
Robert shows moderation, but Jarl and Tord seemed to have no limits when chocolate pudding appeared on the table.
Totally refurbished and equipped with tables, a kitchen, toilets, adjustable lighting, a fireplace, a modern keyboard etc., the former sheep cot at Liodden Camping is nothing but a perfect place to party.
Tired trip participants gaze at president Jan and Unni as they try to break through the wooden floor with their fast-moving cowboy boots.
Hey Arthur, turn it up, will 'ya!
While Arthur performs the art of playing his electric guitar, Jan and Unni responds with frequent use of the dance-floor.

The pictures in this series speek better for themselves than any written word.

"Vett på Vei" traffic safety campaign

October 20. 2001

With the "Bilist 2000" organization as the major contributor, local businesses and organizations made "Vett på vei" a popular arrangement. At the West Side Cruisers stand, Per is guarding our stack of Coke cans.
Per and Liv joined the WSC stand with their beautiful, original 1970 Pontiac GTO.
Geir's rare 1961 Chrysler Newport Convertible sure is a head-turner as it glides silently and smoothly onto the WSC stand.
A quite representative 1960s battleship.
In the cold and windy fall weather, Robert has found a welcome heat source. Slightly reminiscent of burning oil pans in a less fortunate neighborhood, yet very comfortable...
Tord's 1997 Chevrolet K1500 Silverado is the perfect Coke can cooler, but it's quite apparent that a few hundred pounds of ice cubes does lower the truck a bit more than originally planned.
Prior to picking up the ice cubes, Tord seized the opportunity to test his truck's BigFoot heritage. Big 'n bold...
It comes as no surprise that several cars are to die this day, I guess? The Mazdas will be used as ramps, and the VW Golf is to be dropped from 200ft into the side of the Fiat Uno.
Fire crew and EMS personnel demonstrate what goes on at the scene of a serious traffic accident.
The arranged Golf vs. Uno collision equals a real one at 37mph.

Norwegian taxes promote the use of old compact cars like these. It's apparent that some politicians want you dead...

Those who want to drive big, safe, modern cars are labeled environmental pigs. What else is new. With its impressive research and knowledge of the automotive world, the government has every right to call us that...yeah, right.

Remember: you get the politicians that you vote for. If you should ever see the ones you voted for leading the country, there's always a HUGE bureaucracy present to halt any suggested changes.

Theoretically, you could have survived...had you only known which front seat would be left on top. Alternatively, you could have driven a larger, heavier car.

Should engine size and vehicle weight be the key factors of calculating automobile taxes, or are passenger safety and pollution more important aspects? The first two hit exclusive, safe, modern cars hard, hence the success of the envy based, Soviet inspired regulations!

Leaving the political arena for a while:

A quite exiting car-crushing was carried out by the following motorized tools: A good old Willy's...

...and a brutal Jeep CJ.
Aaaaaand.....JUMP! Have you seen that Chevron TV commercial? (HERE!)
Two totally flat rice-boy Mazdas make a flat tire an acceptable loss. Despite the damages, look at that happy owner! We were all smiling after this great show.
...what did I tell you?
Viking Asker&Bærum has a mean machine in the stable. A brand new, heavy hauling Scania tow truck. That's with a big T, or two.
Same size, though slightly lighter than the other one.

WSC Christmas dinner at Big Horn Steak House

November 17. 2001

Big Horn steak house is a restaurant that the "western inspired" among us need to visit a few times a year. Big Horn at Majorstua has the coziest restaurant and greatest food in the business.
Clas and Elin sharing deep thoughts (?) while waiting for their steaks.

...and waiting.

After that delicious meal, and a visit to the popular Route 66 bar, the ride home was supplied by Peer and Elins "8 seat family sleigh", a 1988 Chevrolet Caprice Estate Wagon.
